Preparing for the Winter Season | SERVPRO® of Northeast Charlotte

The colder temperatures are arriving! Fall and winter are upon us once more, so it is important to start preparing your home for the change in seasons.
While winters in Charlotte tend to be more mild than other parts of the country, we are still prone to cold snaps and heavy snowstorms from time to time. Preparing ahead of time can help your house and family weather any weather.
We are predicted to get more snow than usual this year, along with colder temperatures than we are used to. Lucky us!
Compared to other parts of the country, we may be having a whiter and colder winter. As long as we are prepared for the weather, though, we can handle anything.
Our mild winters are something that usually is a perk of living in North Carolina! With our temperatures hovering in the 50s during the day for most of the season, we consider this a great place to live and experience the seasons.
While we should begin preparing for a wet, rainy and (perhaps) snowy season ahead, we can also hope to enjoy some of the warmer days that we are used to.
Winter comes in all shapes and sizes, so we should all start preparing our houses for rain, snow, sleet and ice as best we can.
Starting inside, you should update your emergency kit and add in some canned goods. If we get hit with a blizzard or an intense winter storm, travel to the grocery store may not be advised for a while.
You should also always have a fully stocked emergency kit ready to use at any time. This kit should have a weather radio or another reliable weather alert device that doesn’t run off of electricity.
Next, address your windows and doors. If you have been noticing moisture or cold drafts around them, chances are that they are not weatherproof. If you don’t work on sealing up any leaks or cracks, you could end up with water or mold damage.
When you are done inside, take an afternoon outside and clean out your gutters and clean off your roof. It is also important to keep an eye on the overnight temperature and cover your outdoor faucets if the temperature dips below freezing. You don’t want to be dealing with frozen or burst water pipes!
